GHEESUKE ENGLISH ACADEMY

Gheesuke English Academy (GEA) is an English course Foundation located at Jl. Pendidikan No. 19A Kelurahan Ilir Gunungsitoli 22815 Nias, North Sumatera Indonesia. GEA was founded on February 9th, 2012 by Mr. Yafaowoloo Gea, SS, who graduated his Bachelor Degree in English Language & Literature from The Methodist University of Indonesia Medan North Sumatera. The Founder is also work as a civil servant in the Tourism Culture Youth and Sports Service of the City of Gunungsitoli.

Gheesuke English Academy has started its first class on May 7th 2012. Students are from from Primary School Level, Junior High School, Senior High School, College & professionals. Students are form various schools around the city of Gunungsitoli. They live in the city although two of my Evening Class students (College Level) stay 12 Miles away from the English Course. Most of College students are from English Department while professionals are from Educational Department and Industrial Service. Gheesuke English Academy (GEA) offers 20% discounts to students who got the 1st up to 3rd ranks in their school or top 5 students on the placement test, and also 35% discounts to the orphans and needy students (and even free). All students are treated in the same way in learning English. There are 12 meetings a week in GEA now, consist of 2 classes Elementary school level, 2 classes Junior High school, 2 classes of Senior High and college students. The active students in GEA by now are 69 students.

GEA supports the child protection and concerns about education for all levels. We also have a program named "Teaching English to Disadvantaged Children" which aimed to support orphans and needy children in learning English for free in our English Course. We also conduct some outdoor activities, such as sports (soccer game, swimming) and field study held once a month in order to build our students' emotional relationship with nature and society.

We have created a Facebook Account with 2.902 friends by now. Most friends are Students from Junior High, Senior High, and College students. This facebook is aimed to build communication with GEA's students and all people who are interested in English. GEA uses the Facebook to promote its English Course and to share any information about English learning. We have good responds from our friends and students here.

Activities during the teaching in the class are so interesting for students. We try to build interactive circumstances with them in order to make them feel like home. We teach them about general English (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing) through the attractive methods although medias are still limited in, we don't have labs and LCD projector to teach them for audio-visual, we only use small speaker (for the listening) and a laptop (for the visual).

Students are required to learn actively during the class. All of them are treated in the same way, they have to be able to practice the lesson received in the last minutes of the class. It is aimed to motivate students to give their full attention during the lesson and they are given opportunities to improve the English.

The main problem in our English course is the difficulties in having the native speakers. Students need to have the direct meeting with the native speakers so they can be motivated and know how the real English is spoken. We really expect the visit of native speakers in our English course who can spend their 1-2 hours time in giving the motivation or lesson to our students. We will provide free transportation from and to the airport as well. We will provide accommodation to internships who would like to be the temporary English teachers in our English course.

Gheesuke English Academy also provides translation service from English to Bahasa Indonesia and Bahasa Indonesia - English, interpreters and tour guide.

We also need funds to finance our English course expenses such as tutors' salary and bills. We also plan to buy LCD Projectors, to have a language laboratory and to have some extra classes in order to accomodate our students. And also support for our sport's equipment like soccer balls and shirts (we are going to do a soccer tournament and speech competition on next May 7th 2013 for the 1st anniversary of GEA).
